Brown Sugar Mustard Glazed Ham (Print)

Tender, oven-roasted ham with a sweet and tangy brown sugar mustard glaze that creates a beautiful caramelized coating.

# Ingredient list:

→ Ham

01 - 1 fully cooked bone-in ham (8–10 lb)

→ Glaze

02 - 1 cup brown sugar, packed
03 - 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
04 - 1/4 cup whole-grain mustard
05 - 1/4 cup honey
06 - 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
07 - 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 325°F. Place ham flat side down on rack in large roasting pan. Score surface in diamond pattern with shallow cuts about 1/4 inch deep.
02 - Cover ham loosely with aluminum foil. Bake for 1 hour.
03 - Combine brown sugar, Dijon mustard, whole-grain mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, and ground cloves in small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves and glaze is smooth. Remove from heat.
04 - Remove foil from ham. Brush half of glaze evenly over surface of ham.
05 - Continue baking uncovered for 45–60 minutes, basting every 15–20 minutes with remaining glaze until ham is caramelized and heated through (internal temperature reaches 140°F).
06 - Remove ham from oven and let rest for 15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The glaze creates this incredible sticky caramelized coating that everyone fights over
  • It looks impressive on the table but requires almost zero active cooking time
  • Leftovers mean amazing sandwiches and breakfasts for days
02 -
  • Don't skip scoring the ham—it's not just for looks, it lets the glaze penetrate the meat
  • If the glaze starts getting too dark too quickly, tent loosely with foil
  • A bone-in ham stays much moister than boneless, plus you get that soup bone
03 -
  • Let the ham sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before roasting for more even cooking
  • Use a silicone brush—it handles the sticky glaze better than natural bristles
